Abstract
The purpose of this study was to test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of Adherence of Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS-K) to assess medication adherence in the Korean elderly. The ARMS-K was developed through forward- backward translation technic. A total of 242 elderly individuals with diabetes and hypertension participated to test ARMS-K in N city and C area. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity were calculated using IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 program. Item-to-total correlations and exploratory factor analysis were conducted to test construct validity. One item was removed because of its low correlation with other items. Through principal component analysis, three factors explained 64.3% of the variance. Three subscales were named as taking medication as prescribed, refilling medications on schedule and medication misuse. Internal consistency was supported by Cronbach¡¯s a=.83. The results of this study showed different factor structures compared to those of original ARMS. The Korean ARMS-K showed satisfactory construct validity and reliability.
